Locate and identify the upper trapezius and its attachments through topographical landmarking and palpation and understand the nature of its action
Recognize the signs and symptoms of dysfunction (including excessive resting tone and postural distortions) associated with: chronic tension, breathing pathologies, stressful thoughts, adverse neural tension, and poor ergonomics, associated myofascial trigger point referral patterns
Assess for respiration recruitment, reach recruitment, scapulohumeral rhythm, muscle length, diminished vertical dimension, myofascial dysfunction and recognize palpable and observable signs of dysfunction
Effectively factor into their treatment plan considerations about perpetuating and ergonomic factors and treatment of associated structures/muscles
Safely and effectively employ techniques to treat a short/hypertonic muscle, drop resting muscle tone, treat associated myofascial trigger points and achieve myofascial shifting (techniques include entrainment and orthopedic stretching)
Provide your client with safe and effective home care (including ergonomic awareness and self-care handouts) and rehabilitative exercise program (including sustained stretch and breathing interventions)
